Pattern for knitting Lente Donkey by Hardicraft. Lente is approximately 20 cm tall and is made with 2.5 mm knitting needles.

1. Body

Start at the bottom of the body.

Cast on 16 sts with grey.

2. 8 x (k1, kfb) (= 24 sts)

4. 8 x (k1, kfb, k1) (= 32 sts)

5. p

6. 8 x (k2, kfb, k1) (= 40 sts)

7. - 17. st st

18. 8 x (k2, k2tog, k1) (= 32 sts)

19. - 23. st st

24. 8 x (k1, k2tog, k1) (= 24 sts)

25. - 27. st st

28. 8 x (k1, k2tog) (= 16 sts)

29. p16

Bind off all sts knit-wise and leave a long yarn end hanging.

Work a gathering thread through every st along the base edge and draw up tightly. Join seam with a mattress stitch. Stuff the body.
2. Head

Start at the bottom of the head.

Cast on 16 sts with white.

Continue with grey.

16. - 23. st st

24. 8 x (k2, k2tog, k2) (= 40 sts)

25. - 27. st st

28. 8 x (k2, k2tog, k1) (= 32 sts)

29. - 31. st st

32. 8 x (k1, k2tog, k1) (= 24 sts)

33. - 35. 24 st st

36. 8 x (k1, k2tog) (= 16 sts)

37. p16

38. 8 x (k2tog) (= 8 sts)

Break yarn and draw tightly through the remaining 8 sts.

Join seam. Attach the safety eyes at row 19 with 6 sts between them. When you place the eyes, make sure that the seam is at the back of the head. Stuff the head.

Work a gathering thread through every st along the bottom part of the head and draw up tightly. Weave in the end. Embroider with black 2 nostrils at row 11 and 12 with 11 sts between them. Sew the head onto the body (use the pictures as a guide).
3. Inside of ear

Cast on 4 sts with white.

4. kfb, k2, kfb (= 6 sts)

8. kfb, k4, kfb (= 8 sts)

9. - 15. st st

16. k2tog, k4, k2tog (= 6 sts)

17. p6

Bind off all sts.
4. Outer ear

Cast on 8 sts with grey.

4. kfb, k6, kfb (= 10 sts)

5. - 7. st st

8. kfb, k8, kfb (= 12 sts)

9. - 15. st st

16. k2tog, k8, k2tog (= 10 sts)

17. p10

Bind off all sts.

Lay both parts on top of each other with the right sides facing outwards and sew them together with a mattress stitch. Fold the bottom edge together and secure with a few sts.

Knit another ear and sew the ears onto the head at row 34 - 36 with 4 sts between them.
5. Legs

Start at the top part of the leg.

Cast on 16 sts with grey.

1. - 15. st st, start purl-wise.

16. 4 x (k2, kfb, k1) (= 20 sts)

17. p20

18. 4 x (k2, kfb, k2) (= 24 sts)

19. p24

Continue with white.

20. - 25. st st

Continue with grey.

26. k24

27. k24 at the wrong side of your work.

28. 8 x (k1, k2tog) (= 16 sts)

29. p16

30. 8 x (k2tog) (= 8 sts)

Break yarn and draw tightly through the remaining 8 sts. Join seam with a mattress stitch.

Knit 3 more legs. Stuff 2 legs completely, these are the hind legs. Fold the edges and sew them together. Sew the hind legs onto the side of the body at row 10 - 17.

Stuff the front legs for two-thirds, the top part remains empty. Fold the edges and sew them together. Sew the front legs onto the body, just below the head. Use the pictures as a guide.
6. Tail

Cast on 5 sts with grey.

1. - 14. st st, start knit-wise.

Bind off and sew the long sides together with a mattress stitch. Sew the tail onto the back of the body at row 8 till 10.
7. Mane and tail plume

Cut off 18 black strands of approx. 10 cm. Attach the strands as follows: fold the strands in half and pull them with a (crochet) needle through a st. Pull both ends through the created loop and pull tight. Attach 4 strands onto the end of the tail and use the rest for the mane. Make 2 rows of 7 strands next to each other, start between the ears and work your way down towards the back of the head.
