56. Bind off 2 sts k-wise, k18, bind off 4 sts k-wise, k18, bind off 2 sts k-wise.
Fasten off.
2. Left leg
There are now 2 x 18 sts on your needle, these will become the legs. Turn your work with the wrong side facing you. Reattach the black yarn. You will now start knitting the front 18 sts. This will be the left leg, leave the remaining 18 sts resting on the back of the needle.
1. - 3. st st, start with a p row.
4. 9 x (k2tog) (= 9 sts)
Cut the yarn, leaving 20 cm to sew up the leg later.
Thread the yarn through the remaining 9 sts and pull tight.
3. Right leg
There are now 18 sts on your needle. Turn your work with the wrong side facing you. Reattach the yarn. This will be the right leg.
1. - 3. st st, start with a p row.
4. 9 x (k2tog) (= 9 sts)
Cut the yarn, leaving 20 cm to sew the leg closed later.
Thread the yarn through the remaining 9 sts and pull tight.
4. Sewing together
Place your work with the right side facing down in front of you. Fold the sides towards the centre and sew the inside of the legs and the piece between the legs closed with a mattress stitch. Now sew the seam on the back up to the top of the head closed with a mattress stitch. Stuff the body.
NOTE: Do not sew the head closed yet.
5. Face and belly
You start at the bottom of the belly. Cast on 10 sts with white.

Pull your yarn through these 2 sts and weave in the end.

Now continue over the remaining 7 sts on your needle:

Pull your yarn through these 2 sts and bind off.
Pin the white section onto the body and head. Ensure that row 22 of the white part is at the level of row 25 of the black part (where you have placed your stitch markers). Place the safety eyes at the level of row 1 (see photo for placement). Once you are sure of your placement, sew the white part onto the black part. Stuff the head and sew the top closed with a mattress stitch.
6. Feet
Cast on 5 sts with orange.

Fold your work in half and sew the edges together. Sew the beak at the level of row 29 of the white part of the face.

9. Hat
Cast on 8 sts with lilac.

10. Side Flap 1

Break yarn and draw tightly through the 3 remaining sts. Weave in the end.
11. Brim
Reattach your yarn and continue knitting over the next 16 sts on your row.

7. bind off 14 sts k-wise
Fasten off. Leave a long yarn end hanging to sew the brim to the hat.
12. Side Flap 2
Reattach your yarn and continue knitting over the last 12 sts on your needle.

Fold the brim up and sew it in place with a few stitches.
